Marriage & Family Counseling
Licensed clinical counseling for clients in IdahoMarriage and family counseling is the anchor of Rod's practice. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, he works with couples and families to resolve conflict, rebuild communication, and address the patterns that keep a relationship stuck. He is biased toward helping couples and families stay together — but the decision about the relationship's future is always yours, not his.
What to expect
What sessions look like
Most relationships improve with 5–10 sessions; some clients want more ongoing support. Rod is a Certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator and regularly uses research-backed assessment tools to help couples gain clarity on where their relationship is strong and where it needs work. He is also a Certified "Parent Project" Instructor for families navigating out-of-control teen behavior.
The wellness model
Counselors (as distinct from other mental-health professionals) work from a wellness model rather than an illness model — the belief that people have the capacity to resolve their own problems with the right assistance, expanded perspective, and new skills.
Complicated situations
Where grief, addiction, or childhood trauma complicate a family or marriage, treatment often runs 6 months to 2 years, with periodic tune-ups afterward. Rod will be direct with you about what timeline is realistic for your situation.
